First World Championship Series race and next Team Relay competition for Nicola Spirig in Hamburg

Nicola Spirig will compete in her first World Championship series race this year and the next Mixed Team Relay competition in Hamburg this weekend. The Olympic triathlon champion from 2012 has been preparing for the rest of the season at the altitude training camp in St. Moritz for a good week now: "It is very good to train here again with my international training group. "The level of intensive training is so simply higher than when I train alone at home." Spirig also enjoys nature and family in St. Moritz. "It's nice to spend time with the family, too. As always, the Engadine shows its best side."

Nicola Spirig has been training at home since spring with an altitude training room and so it wasn't difficult for her to change to altitude: "Of course I won't be in top form yet, but we can still expect a place among the top 10". The result depends on the course of the race and the performance in the water. "The decisive factor will be my deficit after the swim and which group will then join up."

Spirig is looking forward to the sprint distance on Saturday evening at 6.40 pm, because the atmosphere during the run through the Hanseatic city is always excellent. Thousands of spectators are treated to a spectacle in the northern German city, and the circuit is also attractive for the athletes. Swimming, for example, is done through a tunnel, the cycle and running track leads through the middle of the city, it is flat but technical.

On Sunday the World Championship in Mixed Team Relay will be held - with 300 meters swimming, 7 kilometers cycling and 1.7 kilometers running. Over two years, nations can collect valuable points to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
