Nicola Spirig finished her only World Cup race this season on the podium in Spain. In the sprint distance (750m swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run) in Valencia, the 38-year-old finished second behind the winner Berth Potter: “It was a flat course around the port of Valencia. As expected, I came out of the water with a little bit of a backlog, then I did a lot of leading work on the bike and pushed the competitors to take on work as well. In the final sprint I was six seconds behind the winner. I am very satisfied with that," said Spirig.

For Nicola it was the first and only World Cup race this season. In the past few weeks, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist has participated in numerous smaller triathlons and athletics competitions.
