26.09.2019
Right in the middle of it comes the beginning. Nicola Spirig as a ten-year-old girl. How she puts on her bicycle helmet, whizzes past a much taller boy on a racing bike, swims her lengths like a staccato in a swimming pool or runs. The beginning of a great career. And then, a child's drawing is shown. A swimmer in the lake, behind her the mountains and a title in children's writing: «Superfrau».
«The journey of a heroine – Superfrau» is also the title of the short film of two and a half minutes, which the exceptional Swiss triathlete made together with the running shoe manufacturer and sponsor On and which focuses on the 37-year-old. During training, with her children, in the race. Thrilling competition scenes can be seen as well as touching and intimate moments.
«A great experience»
The trailer, created by award-winning creative director Andy Fackrell, was a hard piece of work for Nicola Spirig. The shootings lasted up to seven hours a day; some scenes had to be shot up to six times until Fackrell was satisfied. «But it was a great experience and I enjoyed working with such an experienced and professional crew», says the mother of three, who is in the middle of training for the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020. «I think it was worth the effort.»
«Nicola embodies our credo perfectly»
The effort was also worthwhile for Spirig's sponsor On. The Zurich running shoe and sportswear manufacturer has athletes who are also parents particularly at heart. One thing is clear for On: it is possible to combine top-class sport and family life. «We encourage our athletes to realize their dreams, both as parents and as sports career professionals», says Olivier Bernhard, co-founder and former professional triathlete. A credo that Nicola perfectly embodies as a mother of three, says Bernhard. With regard to her family, Spirig has always stressed: «You shouldn't have to choose between them and top-class sport». The short film has been broadcasted internationally since the 26th September.
