Nicola Spirig's form improving

09.05.2022

At the beginning of February, Nicola Spirig had an accident with her bike during training and had to undergo a collarbone operation. After a delayed start into her season at the Zurich Marathon in April, and the prior cancellation of her participation at the Ironman 70.3 in Dubai, her form is now slowly coming back.

In her return to competition last month, it was a 6th place finish (3rd place in the incorporated Swiss Championships) in Zurich, where the goal had been to reacquaint herself and her body to the rigors of competition without having to take a break from training on the day after the race. Then, she came in 4th at Ironman 70.3 Challenge Morgan” in Gran Canaria, before finishing in 2nd place at the Ironman 70.3 at Mallorca this past weekend.  The 2012 Olympic champion’s form is developing nicely and Spirig acknowledged as much following her race in Mallorca. “ I am happy  with the way my form is coming back and I hope I will continue to feel a little bit better with each passing week.”
In preparation for the Sub8 project, Spirig will next turn her attention to a few more races in Switzerland, before travelling to Germany in early June. Sub8 will take place on June 5th or 6th (weather depending) at Dekra Lausitzring near Dresden.
